All Needed a Home — All Found One With Us

Every horse in our herd has a story—stories of resilience, healing, and second chances. Many arrived after being let down by humans, carrying physical wounds, emotional scars, or both. Here, they have found their forever home. They are safe, loved, and honored for exactly who they are.

Below, you can read more about each of these incredible horses, their journeys, and the impact they continue to make.

The Herd

Melody

Our Beautiful Queen the Sanctuary is named after cantered over the Rainbow Bridge in 2022

Barn Name: Melody
Full Name: PF Endless Melody
Breed: Purebred Polish Arabian
Birthdate: May 10, 1991

The beautiful queen of the barn. She came to Letitia over 16 years ago when she needed a soft spot to land. Letitia\’s dream horse since she was a little girl. An ex show horse, she has been with us the longest now. She is the first one to come in at night and enjoys green apples and raspberries. She has a spirit that draws people to her and has a sense for any child that comes in with special needs

Cajun

Barn Name: Cajun
Full Name: Cajun of Arcadia
Breed: Paint
Birthday:  2001

The same person we got Kiwi from, brought Cajun into our herd. She was at our barn and we told her we could really use another kid’s lesson horse and she said “come get Cajun”. She had sold Cajun to a family and when they got out of horses Jamie bought him back. He had been at Jamie’s farm hauling kids around occasionally and sitting in the pasture. When I first saw him he looked at me with the Eeyore look of “oh bother” whatever you want me to do. He brightened when he realized there is lots of love and special treats involved with being part of the herd. Needing spacial farrier work and strenghtening he continues to progress in his skills

Britta

Barn Name: Britta
Full Name: Bergen Silken C-2031
Breed: Norwegian Fjord
Birthdate:  2000

“You need a Fjord” one of our vets said. Lo and behold one day the call came. A trainer friend of hers had some older clients that wanted an older Fjord to have a good forever home. Of course, we went to go meet her and it was love at first hug. She came right up, stuck her head in my chest and I was lost. She needed a good place to live her life. We made the arrangements and Britta came home to be part of our herd. We noticed right away something was not okay, so bodywork, dental, and bloodwork were done. She needed it all and her bloodwork showed she has Cushings. Needing extra support and low sugar hay to stay healthy and needing multiple body clips to get rid of her excessive long hair she has blossomed. We are thankful she found us and we believe she is too.

Luna

Barn Name: Luna
Full Name: IMA Illusion
Breed: Pinto
Birthdate:  2005

Luna spent time before joining our herd as a trail riding partner. Her prior owner very much wanted Luna to have the right home and our mutual friend thought we’d be the perfect match. As with most horses that come into the herd, we have had to work through issues and we continue to give her the support she needs to age gracefully. A strong personality, Luna has learned that we do things with connection and partnership not force.
Luna has shown to be a steady mount that doesn’t let anything bother her when you’re riding and is a reliable trail horse and awesome Cowboy Dressage mount. Luna has settled into our herd where she feels like she is in charge of the barn and everyone there.

Carmen

Barn Name: Carmen
Full Name: Stellar Performer
Breed: Quarter Horse
Birthdate:  2008

Carmen came from a horse show past where she was really shut down  Our new friend took her in when she needed a new life, pulled her shoes, and put her in the field for the last few years.  When I met her and heard about Carmen I was concerned about who she really was going to turn out to be.  You never know about horses with a past (as we know all too well).  From the day she stepped, or rather fell, out of the trailer she was meant to be here.  Thank goodness her Mom knew that.  Carmen has the kindest eyes and you just know she loves all the attention she gets at our barn.

Norm

Barn Name: Norm
Full Name: Lenas Wright Stuff
Breed: Quarter Horse
Birthdate:  1999

Retired from a cutting horse career and looking for a new job, Norm came to us by way of a friend. When he needed a new home, we were excited to welcome him to our barn family. Thanks to his special people he has overcome much of his anxiety- except for dinner time!- and is loving his new life as teacher and partner for another generation of horse lovers. We continue to make sure physically he is given the care he needs to continue a long, happy, comfortable life helping humans..

Lilly

Barn Name: Lilly
Full Name: Dreams Made Lucky
Breed: American Paint Horse
Birthdate:  2002

Lilly is a little silly and a lot of spunk. She came to us seven years ago when her owner was no longer capable of caring for her. She had sat for a quite a while in a pasture, so she was more green broke than we were originally told but she has come a long way in her training. Her cute looks get her noticed, but it’s her sweet nature that wins people’s hearts.

Faelin

Barn Name: Faelin
Full Name: Faelin of Castle Knoll
Breed: Gypsy Cob
Birthdate: 2006

A phone call, a horse needing to land in a forever home where she could be loved and cared for Faelin came to us as a blessing. She is educating many on this unique breed that you don’t often find at a barn like ours. Gypsies were selectively bred to create the perfect horse to pull the Gypsy caravan, and have only been in North America since 1996. They are now being used in all disciplines and Faelin is talented in many. Stunningly beautiful, she greets many at our barn with her regal attitude. She has been called a diva and with her extra “Gypsy care” that earns her that right. A proud member of the herd, we are thankful she is with us to live out her best rest of her life.

Freda

Barn Name: Freda
Full Name: Free to Be Sassy
Breed: Quarter Horse
Birthdate:  2007

Oh, our Freda Girl, you needed a home to be loved and understood. One look at you and we knew that you were meant to come and live with us. A cutting bred horse that doesn’t like cows it was time for a career change. She came right in and immediately found success creating confidence in riders. She’s had some medical issues including a major injury in 2023 and we appreciate all the help our community has given her.

Bobbi

Barn Name: Bobbi
Full Name: Bobbi Sox Finale
Breed: Appaloosa
Birthdate:  1997

Bobbi was taken in by our friend Colene when she needed a home the most and now she gets to live the rest of her life with us. Its amazing to everyone how old she is. We continue to give her the ongoing maintenance and care she needs to live her best life. She loves to give snuggles, get carrots, hang out with her best friend Kiwi, and get the love she so much deserves. A great teacher to both young and old we are thankful she is with us.

Cat

Barn Name: Cat
Full Name: Just Cattin’ Around
Breed: Arabian/Quarter Horse
Birthdate:  2006

Oh Cat! What to do with you? A stall opened and another one found us. She was advertised, but no one stepped up to give her a forever home. Her elderly owners had both passed away and family sold her to someone that knew nothing about horses. Left at another barn, that family decided to try to find her a home where she would be understood and loved, not passed on again. We were able to trace back owners and found out she had been trained to be a show horse in her young life. While being temperamental, she can also be so sweet. We have had to work through a variety of health issues and now on to increasing her riding time. She has so much potential and we want to help her find that.

Lucy

Barn Name: Lucy
Full Name: MJA Whata Gal
Breed: Quarter Horse
Birthdate:  2000

What is one more? Lucy was a little different and came to us through a Cowboy Dressage friend. For some reason we felt she needed to be with us and, even though we really didn\’t have the space, we managed to make enough room. She is quite a talker and nickers to welcome everyone. Having on and off lameness it has been a year of trying to figure out what is wrong and treating her arthritis with PRP. She is a heart-stealer and as we work through her issues, she will teach many how to ride and have a love of horses. We know she needed to land with us and spend her life at our little bed and breakfast!

Tahlia

Barn Name: Tahlia
Full Name: Poco Tabs Deal
Breed: Quarter Horse
Birthdate:  1997

Oh Tahlia! We had a stall open up and what pops up in my Facebook but a Palomino (remember I said no Palominos) that I couldn’t get off my mind. Underweight, sad, and four homes in five months; when I saw her I knew she had to go home with us. She has been a challenge both physically, trying to get down to her pain, and emotionally with her issues. She just wants to be loved and understood. She is so loved by her people and they have been willing to take the time to work through things. It has been a long haul, but it will be worth it in the end. This girl is worth the time and effort and goes to show how some love and understanding can heal lots of wounds. While she felt her life was over we showed her what love is again!

Solid

Barn Name: Solid
Full Name: DA Solid Gold
Breed: Arabian
Birthdate:  2006

A trip over the mountains brought her to us when we believe she needed us most.  She stepped off the trailer all shaggy and rough looking, but oh does she have the prettiest petite head with a white mark that makes it look like her tongue is sticking out.  We have worked very hard both with time and money to get her healthy again.  As an ongoing process, it is not a quick or easy fix, in fact it will be something that we have to sustain and maintain the rest of Solid’s life but we feel it is worth it to help her have the best life that she deserves.  If you are interested in sponsoring her monthly medications or regular bloodwork please let us know.

Ty

Barn Name: Ty
Full Name: BJs Secret Moon
Breed: Quarter Horse
Birthday:  1997

Ty is quite the handsome man. His family was looking for a forever home when he needed to be retired from his roping career. Despite being the largest horse in the barn, he’s really quite the wuss. First afraid of birds then a butterfly, trail riding isn’t really his thing, but he’s become a good arena horse and helps with the program. For those willing to put in the effort and spend the time, Ty is an honest and dependable partner.

Rose

Barn Name: Rose
Full Name: Country Roads Sterling Rose
Breed: Miniature Horse
Birthdate:  2011

Right away we said that we should change her name to Rose “She’s SO Cute.”  We thought about needing a miniature at the barn for the work we do and Rose came into our world.  Its amazing how they find us.  The breeder that raised Rose had gotten her back after she had seven homes in four years.  When we got her loaded up the breeder had tears in her eyes and said “Rose I promised you would have a forever home”.  With she finds the peace and joy she didn’t have before.  She is a favorite of the littles and for the ones scare to approach a big horse.

Jazzy

Barn Name: Jazzy
Full Name: Country Rds Hughstons Sensational Jazz
Breed: American Miniature Horse
Birthday:  2016

When we met Rose she was teaching the babies how to be “real” horses.  Never did we think Jazzy would be with us.  Our friend wound up with Jazzy at one point and called me to ask if she got Jazzy back would we give her a forever home.  Of course, I jumped at the chance as I had always wanted Jazzy to be with her sister.  It is so fun to see them together!

Jewel

Barn Name: Jewel
Full Name: Golden Magic Jewel
Breed: American Paint Horse
Birthdate:  2006

Look who appeared when we had an opening…pretty Jewel out of southern Oregon; after a long 10 hour drive and quick decision to bring her home.  Little did we know she had never had a relationship with a human that would allow her to be confident.  With a lot of uncertainty and anxiety, she hurt herself and was on stall rest for over 9 months. Her injury turned into a blessing as it gave her some much needed time to decompress.  She needed some special humans that would take the time she needed to learn how to connect, build trust, and show her understanding. With their help she is well on her way to becoming a confident partner.  It will be great to see where she fits into the program.

Val

Barn Name: Val
Full Name: Vals NorthernPride VT
Breed: Arabian
Birthdate:  2011

What a sweet, handsome boy! Already a barn favorite as he greets everyone that comes in the barn with his long neck and soft eyes. Val came to us through one of our vets. She knew we had retired a couple of our riding horse and felt Val would be a great addition to our program. His family wants Val to spend his life interacting with kids and helping people.

Elena

Barn Name: Elena
Full Name: Elegant Lady of Bardo
Breed: Warlander
Birthdate:  2017

An ad, a backyard in outer east county, a ride out to see her, and then back with the trailer. When she wouldn’t get in and four people were trying to force her I asked them to stop, walked up, and put a hand on her while she stood stock still and said quietly so no one else could hear “if you want to come home with us you need to get in the trailer now.” After that she walked right in and stood. What a great mind and a loving spirit. She loves greeting everyone who comes to the barn! We can’t wait to see her reach her full potential.

Kiwi

Barn Name: Kiwi
Full Name: Boston Baked Kiwi
Breed: Paint/Pinto
Birthdate:  2001
Needing special shoes and regular ongoing maintenance, we work to keep her healthy and sound. She really seems to love the attention, pets, and treats she is getting from our families and special humans.

Red

Barn Name: Red
Full Name: Red Moon Rising
Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 15
Red came to us from Washington. He hasn’t done a lot of hard work in his life which means that he has less physical issues than most of the herd, but it also left him weak and out of shape. We are working on seeing where Red might be able to fit in the program. Only some time will tell. Everyone thinks Red is so cute when he puts his head through his fence to say hello, but don’t let him fool you – he is a player and loves to be funny.

Chewy

Barn Name: Chewy
Breed: Welsh Mountain Pony
Birthdate: 2011
“No pony” we have said for years. Well, we know how that goes, so when our dear friend sent a message about a pony we had to go meet him. Well trained, a great attitude, and such a sweet guy, he is a favorite. We are thankful his owner wanted him to find a place where he would have lots of attention. We just wish he could talk and tell us where he got his training and where he originally came from. Thankfully, Chewy has found his forever home with us, where he is adored by many little kids
